Thousand Sons Army

    Thousand Sons Army
    Color and paint schemes

Painting an army of Thousand Sons is always a visual and technical challenge. In this case, the request was to bring each miniature to Premium level, with the aim of making the set feel like a single work of art rather than a collection of individual pieces.
The color scheme followed the classic line: intense blue with golden details and touches of yellow, which provide contrast and brightness without breaking the chromatic coherence. We applied cold glazes and controlled highlights to enhance the volumes of the burnished metal. In the characters, we reinforced the visual narrative with emerald and purple OSL effects.

    Customer briefing

    Blue armor, golden souls

The client wanted perfect execution: the entire Thousand Sons army, from Ahriman to the last Tzaangor, had to be premium quality, with a classic, clean style. He contacted us with precise references and a pre-determined scheme, which facilitated a clear and meticulous workflow.
Their priority was to maintain the visual unity of the whole. They wanted the army to look as if it had come from the same ritual, with no differences in tone between the different painters on the team. They also asked for the miniatures’ bases to represent pale stone ruins, to highlight the blue of the armor and create a cold, desert-like contrast.

    Ahriman, sorcerers and demons

We started the project by preparing a color sample that would serve as a reference for the entire army. The client approved it right away, and with that clear guide, we began the complete assembly and preparation of the bases. We divided the units among several painters, maintaining constant consistency control.
During the process, the main challenge was to match the transitions and metallic sheens between different coats. We relied on daily internal reviews and color comparisons. The Rhino, originally with a yellow pattern, was repainted blue to unify the set.
