Vampire Counts
Color and paint schemes
This project was, quite literally, raising a legion of undead from scratch. A large-scale army of Vampire Counts where every unit counts: skeletons, zombies, tomb guardians, cavalry…
We handled the entire process: complete assembly, ornate bases, and full painting. The strategy was clear: the army’s base level focused on gameplay to ensure volume and consistency, reserving the ornate level for heroes, large creatures, and centerpiece pieces.
For the finishing touches, we applied weathering to bones and armor, organic textures to skin, and blood and dirt effects that add narrative depth. The bases feature damp tones and muted vegetation.

Customer briefing
The March of the Undead
The client wanted to avoid the typical “mishmash” of colors that can arise in this type of faction, opting instead for a restricted palette where blacks and dark blues would set the overall tone.
As a contrast, he suggested highlighting certain units—especially the Blood Knights—with a metallic crimson red to create a sense of visual hierarchy. He also asked us to include effects that would reinforce the narrative: rust on skeletons, sickly skin on zombies, and blood on creatures.
There was no need for much adjustment: it was a fairly natural continuation of what a Vampire Counts army calls for, but with very clear control over aesthetic consistency.

From the Crypt to the Table: Developing an Undead Army
We kicked off the project with two key prototypes: skeletons and zombies. Once they were approved, that gave us the foundation to scale up the rest of the army with confidence. From there, we organized the work into blocks so we wouldn’t get overwhelmed by the sheer volume.
Production was quite organic within the team: each painter took on units, while always maintaining common references to ensure consistency. One of the toughest moments was, without a doubt, tackling the 65 zombies…
The final phase of the project was the most rewarding: characters, zombie dragons, Terrorgheists, and the Coven’s Throne, where we were able to raise the bar and enjoy the details even more.
