Star Wars Squad

    Star Wars Squad
    Color and paint schemes

We’re back to Star Wars, but this time from the Separatist side. This project involved expanding an existing army for Star Wars Legion, incorporating key units that really bring it to life.
We handled the assembly, painting, and base-building, with a clear focus on maintaining consistency with our previous work. All miniatures were finished at the Ornate level, while Dooku was upgraded to Premium, elevating the level of detail where it really matters.
The bases were designed with an arid setting, featuring textures and reddish tones that help integrate all the pieces into a single environment.

Under Dooku’s Command: Precision, Metal, and Discipline at the Table

In this case, the request was very straightforward: stick to the classic style seen in the movies and ensure that everything blended seamlessly with what had already been painted. He asked for a clean finish, without excessive weathering or aggressive effects.
The priority was for the army to look true to the Star Wars universe, with battledroids in light sand tones and droidekas in that characteristic coppery finish. Additionally, Count Dooku had to stand out clearly from the rest, both in terms of paint quality and presence.
He also paid special attention to overall consistency. It wasn’t just about painting new units, but about integrating them into an existing collection, respecting tones, contrasts, and how they look on the table.

Between Copper and Sand: The Visual Language of the Separatists

We started with the assembly, which was probably the biggest technical challenge of the project. The pieces are small and delicate, so we prioritized precision and sturdiness from the very beginning.
We decided to split the work between two painters to take advantage of their respective strengths: one worked on the battledroids, and the other on the droidekas and Dooku. This allowed us to maintain consistency within each group and make efficient progress.
We first applied the base colors in blocks and then refined each unit individually. This helped us avoid deviations from the color scheme. Dooku was left for last, where we spent more time on details and finishing touches.
