The traces of Rome in the stars

The customer came to us with a very clear idea: he wanted to bring his Severan Dominate army to life, that rebel faction of the Imperial Guard known for its Roman legion-inspired aesthetic. He explained that he was looking for a compact set to start deploying on the tabletop, but he wasn’t satisfied with a basic assembly and paint job.
The commission included the complete assembly of the miniatures, the conversion of the troops using 3D-printed bits, especially the Roman-inspired helmeted heads, and a ornate paint job for the entire set. The request was clear: maintain the official color scheme of the regiment, with red, white, and brown clothing, and transfer that identity to an environment consistent with the lore.
For the bases, he asked us for a desert-style finish, reddish and dry, with 3D details that would help convey the feeling of an arid and hostile world. The result should be a recognizable, narrative rebel army full of personality.

We like to work on each project as an open process, where the client can closely follow the evolution of their army. In this case, we started with a miniature test that defined both the color scheme and the style of the bases, and once approved, we began the bulk of the work.
Assembly took up a significant part of the initial phase. We incorporated conversions with 3D-printed heads, which added a distinctive Roman touch. Then we divided the painting into stages: first the larger units, such as the forty Shock Troopers, and then we moved on to the more detailed and hierarchical miniatures, such as the commanders and the imposing Rogal Dorn.
Each step was documented with daily photographs that we sent to the client, showing them everything from the base color application to the final finishes of lights and details. The reddish desert bases were worked on in parallel, so that each batch of miniatures was delivered visually complete.
