    Color and paint schemes

The Horus Heresy offers endless possibilities on a narrative and visual level, but few are as powerful as working on an entire army of Imperial Fists. The client asked us for just that: an imposing, cohesive force marked by the harshness of battle. Our mission was clear: to maintain the classic scheme of the Imperial Fists Horus Heresy. All the miniatures received specific attention in terms of assembly and integration of parts from different ranges, adjusting proportions and details so that they would fit naturally into the 30K scale. The bulk of the army was painted at the Vistoso level, seeking a balance between quality and uniformity on the tabletop. For Dorn, we opted for the Premium level, highlighting both the miniature and the base with elements of ruins from Epic Basing.

    Customer briefing

Between dust and blood: the march of the Imperial Fists

This project came from a client who was looking for an army of Imperial Fists. This wasn’t their first time working with us, so they came with a very clear idea: a classic scheme, faithful to the background, but with a strong emphasis on wear and battle damage. That instruction was applied to the entire army, from tactical squads to heavy tanks, including iconic characters such as Sigismund and Pollux. Rogal Dorn was to be the center of attention, represented with a premium level that would stand out both in display cases and on the table. The customer also requested magnetized bases to facilitate transport and gameplay, and gave us free rein to add 3D scenic elements.

    Golden fists, iron souls

We started by airbrushing the entire army in yellow to ensure color uniformity. This common step gave us the perfect base to work on each unit separately without losing cohesion. The Tactical Marines were worked on with brush techniques to add chips, scratches, and dirt. The tanks, on the other hand, received more intense weathering layers: rust, dust, and impact marks. At the same time, we prepared the heroes, which required conversions and scale adjustments, especially for Pollux and Garrius.

The whole process has been an absolute pleasure. What really stands out to me is the communication with the Art-W team.
