Imperial Fists

    Imperial Fists
    Color and paint schemes

This commission took us back to the brutal campaigns of the Horus Heresy. The client asked us to expand their Imperial Fists army, maintaining its classic scheme but adding a noticeable dose of battle wear and tear.
The project ranged from MKII infantry to heavy armor, including a Saturnine Dreadnought that became the true centerpiece of the army. The entire set was worked on at a Ornate level, with magnetized 3D bases and Epic Basing ruin details.
We wanted the characteristic yellow to convey the weariness of conflict: desaturated tones, deep shadows, and a sprinkling of impacts and scratches that tell the story of countless sieges.

    Customer briefing

Armors marked by duty: the legacy of Dorn

The customer had already placed their trust in us for a first batch of miniatures, and was so satisfied that they wanted to expand their force to represent the full power of the Imperial Fists during the Horus Heresy.
He provided us with visual references and detailed the level of damage he wanted on the armor. He also requested that the vehicles be magnetized, making them easier to transport and play with.
The bases with elements of ruin completed the setting, simulating a devastated urban battlefield.

Armors marked by duty: the legacy of Dorn

All the miniatures were airbrushed at the same time, which allowed us to establish a common yellow tone and a uniform texture.
From there, the team divided the units to detail each insignia, wound, and battle effect with a brush. The heroes and armored vehicles were reserved for the last phase, when we had the palette completely calibrated.
Assembling the Saturnine Dreadnought was almost like a micro-sculpture within the commission: more than sixty pieces in the leg and waist section alone. We closed the project with consistency checks and photographic review.

The whole process has been an absolute pleasure. What really stands out to me is the communication with the Art-W team.
