Void Wolves

    Void Wolves
    Color and paint schemes

For these Void Wolves, we retained the savage nature of Fenris’s children, but replaced their traditional mounts with reptilian creatures from the Seraphon.
The scale of the project made it important to establish different levels of finish. We painted the troops at the Ornate level and reserved the Premium level for heroes and cavalry.
We also handled the assembly, added some parts via 3D printing, and developed the conversions that define the army.
For the paint scheme, we retained elements from a previous scheme, with blue-green armor as the dominant color. Over that, we introduced skin tones, weathered golds, and numerous small color accents.
On the bases, we incorporated earth, rock, and snow to reinforce the impression of warriors accustomed to fighting in extreme environments.

    Customer briefing

    The Wolves Ride on Dragons

The starting point was very specific: the client already had a previous army, the Void Dragons, and wanted this new force to serve as a complement without simply becoming a carbon copy.
The main request was to replace the army’s mounts with reptiles from the Seraphon of Age of Sigmar. This way, we maintained the character of a savage, mounted force while visually connecting these Void Wolves to the concept previously developed for the Void Dragons.
The leader had to take this premise even further: we would start with a Chaos Lord on Karkadrak and transform him into a champion unique to the army, removing all references to Chaos and blending him with components from various Space Wolves-themed kits.

    Scales, Snow, and Steel

We started with the miniatures that didn’t require major conversions. As we progressed with their assembly and added the necessary 3D-printed parts, we also worked on the sample miniature until the overall look of the army was approved.
Then came the trickiest part: the mounts. The riders were originally designed for wolves and had very specific poses, whereas the reptiles had completely different proportions.
We had to adapt each joint to make the poses work and ensure the result looked as if it had been designed that way from the start. We also added a banner to the unit’s champion.
