Blood Angels 30K
Color and paint schemes
This commission took us back to the depths of the Horus Heresy, expanding an army of HH Blood Angels that we had already worked on in the past.
All the miniatures and bases were worked on at the ornate level, seeking an attractive finish for gaming, but without sacrificing realism. The classic Blood Angels scheme was kept as a base, with intense red.
The most striking difference was in the Crimson Paladins: their ornate armor lends itself to gold trim and filigree that elevates the whole ensemble. For the bases, we opted for arid rocky terrain, with a dry texture and muted contrasts that highlight the legion’s iconic red.

Customer briefing
When red is stained with eternal war
This client knew us well: we had already worked together on a previous Blood Angels project, and he was satisfied with the result. This time, he came back with the idea of expanding his HH Blood Angels army, requesting a varied set of troops and vehicles, but maintaining the original aesthetic.
His main request was clear: to respect the classic scheme of the legion, that intense red of the Horus Heresy, but with the same grimdark touch we gave it in the first project. He wanted marked wear and tear, scratches in the paint, accumulated dirt, and a sense of veteran campaign experience.

General picture of the project Ornate
Between gold and ash: the Crimson Paladins rise
We started the project by airbrushing all the armor to match: bases and main lights in the same block to ensure consistency between units. Then, each painter in the workshop took a different group: Marines, Dawnbreakers, Paladins, Speeders, and Outriders.
The vehicles turned out to be the most complicated part. The Forgeworld Land Speeder Proteus kits were not in the best condition: bent parts, forced joints… it was necessary to apply heat and putty corrections to make them solid. The same was true for the Outriders MKIV pilots, whose proportions complicated the assembly.
Once assembled and painted, we applied the same weathering treatment to the entire army: scratches, chips, and dirt washed away with oils.
