Grayish blue and dust: the coldness of imperial machinery

The client contacted us looking for a very specific approach for their Kill Team Battleclade. They wanted their miniatures to breathe the heavy air of an imperial mine, with accumulated dust and traces of alien contamination. They asked us to make the bases represent the Tyranid corruption seeping up from underground.
The Combat Servitors’ weapons had to be magnetized to offer flexibility during games. In addition, the client preferred the bases to be 3D printed, ensuring uniformity and precision in the terrain details.
The result: a project with an industrial grimdark aesthetic, where dust, metal, and flesh merge in a story of technology and decay.

Battleclade: A Tale of Dust, Wires, and Corruption

We painted the entire Kill Team Battleclade simultaneously, seeking total consistency between figures and bases. The process began with a medium gray primer, the ideal base for variations of desaturated blue.
The most challenging part was integrating the miniatures with the 3D-printed bases, which had pronounced reliefs and few flat areas. We had to adjust postures and reinforce joints to avoid tension.
Overall control was key: as this was a small but highly technical group, each miniature had to balance its level of detail without disrupting the overall look.
