Solo Leveling Necrons
Color and paint schemes
There are projects that make it clear right from the briefing that they’re going to be different. This time, we worked on a clash between the Necrons and the Aeldari, directly inspired by the aesthetic of the anime Solo Leveling.
The project was primarily executed at the Ornate level, reserving a “Premium” finish for Imotekh the Stormlord. The bases were painted in arid, dark tones to enhance the contrast with the lighting effects.
In terms of painting, the entire collection revolves around a very dark atmosphere reinforced by purple OSL and intense neon lighting. For the Necrons, we aimed for a technological and menacing look, with black armor and magenta highlights that directly evoke the aesthetic of Solo Leveling.

Customer briefing
A clash of galaxies and purple neon lights
The client came to the studio with an idea that’s quite unusual in Warhammer 40k: to reinterpret a clash between the Necrons and the Aeldari using the anime Solo Leveling as an aesthetic reference.
The instructions were very specific regarding the use of purple lighting, OSL effects, and intense contrasts against dark armor. For the Necrons, the client wanted a technological yet menacing look, dominated by blacks and magenta neon.
We were also asked to reinforce the narrative between miniatures through small conversions and scenic details. Elements such as defeated enemies or more aggressive poses helped greatly in conveying the sense of conflict.

General picture of the project Game and Ornate level
Painting an army inspired by Solo Leveling
The first phase of the project focused heavily on establishing the overall atmosphere. We airbrushed nearly all the miniatures to quickly establish the main highlights and a common color base.
Once the bases were built, we began the more detailed work using brushes and oil paints. With the Necrons, we really emphasized the dark contrasts and purple lighting effects. The OSL was probably the most important part of the process.
On a creative level, it was especially fun to develop the narrative between the miniatures. Imotekh’s modified pose helped a lot in reinforcing the idea of constant conflict. As we usually do in our projects, we shared progress images throughout the process.
