Black Templars Reinforcements
Color and paint schemes
Aaron has once again entrusted us with the expansion of his Black Templar army, and this time the project includes an impressive array of heroes and vehicles. Among the miniatures, you can find a Lieutenant in Phobos Armour, a Castellan, a Techmarine… A set that, as always, we have treated with detail and dedication.
The color scheme follows the grimdark pattern established in previous projects: black armors illuminated with desaturated blue tones that add depth, and tabards and details in an aged bone tone, giving that look of wear and age. The bases reinforce this somber atmosphere, recreating a landscape of an arid and devastated planet. For this, we have used a desert earth texture on which we have added half-buried mechanical bits, painted in metallic and rusty tones, achieving that post-apocalyptic air that fits so well with the background of the army.
The work included both the assembly and the painting of all the miniatures to the ornate level that characterizes us. Following the instructions of Aaron, a competitive player, we assembled each figure with the utmost care so that all the options were perfect on the battlefield. In the painting phase, we applied sponge chipping techniques and OSL effects on the lenses, paying special attention to details such as piping and decorations. The Castellan, as leader, received special attention, highlighting his shoulder pads in bone color to emphasize his command status in front of the rest of the army. A project that adds even more grandeur to Aaron’s already vast army.

Leadership in black and bone: One Castellan to command them all
He first contacted us a year ago, when he was looking for a studio that could transform his vision into a tangible reality. He wanted to start his Black Templar army with a scheme that would be true to the dark and solemn background of this faction. From the very beginning, he explained to us that his idea was to create an army with black armor, blue lighting and aged bone details, to give it that grimdark touch that appealed to him so much.
In addition to the miniatures, Aaron had a very clear request regarding the bases: they had to represent a desolate planet, with dry land and abandoned mechanical remains, to give the feeling of his troops advancing through an endless battlefield. I wanted every element of the project to maintain a visual coherence, from the color scheme to the smallest details.
This latest commission was no exception, and Aaron asked us to continue with that line, but to add a personal touch for his Castellan, who sports skull-shaped shoulder pads, setting himself apart from the rest of the army to emphasize his superior rank.

The desolate lands of the Templars: Peanas that speak of warfare
Throughout this project, Aaron was constantly involved thanks to the daily progress photos we sent him. We started with the assembly, making sure that all the miniature options were set up as he had requested. Once that phase was finished, we printed everything in black, preparing the perfect base for the Black Templar scheme.
Little by little, we worked on the paint layers, keeping him informed at every step. We applied the desaturated blue highlights over the black armor, and Aaron could see how the details in tabards and aged bone-colored trim were taking shape. The photos showed the process in detail, including the chipping effects we added with the sponge technique, something that always adds a realistic touch.
When it was the turn of the bases, we also showed how we were incorporating the mechanical bits and the earthy texture. With the reddish pigments and rusty metallic details, each base told its own story of devastation. Watching the evolution in real time was key to making sure everything looked exactly as Aaron had envisioned it.

The whole process has been an absolute pleasure. What really stands out to me is the communication with the Art-W team.
