Dark Angels Company
Color and paint schemes
We approached this project as an exercise in balance within the Dark Angels: three wings, three color schemes, and a single army that needed to feel cohesive. It ranged from fast units like the Ravenwing Black Knights to major characters such as Azrael and Lion El’Jonson.
The work focused on painting and base design, applying the Ornate level to the entire army and reserving the Premium level for Lion. The bases, inspired by the forests of Caliban, were key to unifying the whole: earthy tones, damp hues, and vegetation.
In terms of finish, each wing was treated with its own identity: black for Ravenwing, bone for Deathwing, and green for the line. However, we introduced common elements across all of them, especially through oil glazes.

Customer briefing
Building the First Legion
The client had a very clear vision from the start: he wanted a Dark Angels army that faithfully reflected the identity of each wing. He asked us to retain the three classic color schemes—Ravenwing, Deathwing, and green—without any drastic reinterpretations.
The commission was focused on the Ornate level, with one clear exception: Lion El’Jonson had to stand out as a centerpiece in the Premium tier. Additionally, he requested bases inspired by the forests of Caliban, seeking to reinforce the chapter’s lore.
There were no major experiments in terms of color schemes, but there was freedom to work with techniques that would help bring the whole set together.

Three Legions, One Army: Building a Cohesive Dark Angels Force
The process began with a light airbrush phase to establish the foundations of each design. This allowed us to quickly work out the main volumes before going into detail with a brush.
Each wing was worked on independently, respecting its own timeline and requirements, but incorporating common elements such as oil glazes to create a shared atmosphere. Subsequently, we adjusted the tones with inks to refine the overall composition.
The project was reviewed as a whole to ensure cohesion, especially in the final stage where we harmonized finishes and contrasts between units.
